
History
The neighboring town of San Lorenzo de Morunys had numerous manufacturers of woolen cloth, so “as suggested by some historian” a party close to the hermitage of Sant Serni del Grau, in the current term of Guixers, was named of Vilamantells.
The municipal coat of arms was approved in September 1992. It is described thus: “tiling Shield: vert, 6 argento rocks into mountain inns 1.2.3 By Corona stamps one mural of town.”.

Geography
The municipality of Guixers includes entities Castelltort population, La Corriu, Montcalb, Sisquer, Valls and Vilamantells. All these entities are sparsely populated (farmhouses) that derived from the old parish division. Perhaps this is why the official name of the original township was Guixers and aggregates. The organization of population that names the municipality, Guixers, is located 844 m.
The administrative center of the municipality is in the state of Nova Casa de la Vall, several kilometers Guixers.
In 2008, 72 of the 140 inhabitants of the municipality lived in the state of Vilamantells, towards which it has extended a neighborhood of San Lorenzo de Morunys.
